A fire pump is a world of its own that must never be confused with a domestic water booster set: the standard is different (EN 12845 / NFPA 20), the electrical supply is separate, and even the operating logic is the opposite — once a fire pump has started it does not stop, even if the pressure recovers. It is among the items that most often cause problems in occupancy, insurance and fire brigade inspections. Is a fire pump the same thing as a normal booster set?

No. A fire pump is designed to EN 12845 / NFPA 20, has its own supply and does not stop automatically once it has started. Combining it with the domestic water booster set is against the regulations.

Is a fire booster set mandatory in my building?

The regulations decide, based on building height, use and floor area. At the survey we give you a firm answer for your building class.

Is a diesel pump essential?

In many scenarios diesel back-up is required against the risk of a power cut. The electric / diesel / jockey combination is set according to the project.

Will my existing system pass inspection?

We carry out compliance inspection: pump capacity, reserve, pipework and test records are checked; shortcomings are reported and put right.

Why is periodic testing necessary?

A fire pump may not run for even a few seconds in a year; there is no guarantee that an untested system will start on the day. We set up a weekly/monthly test and annual maintenance calendar.
